Former Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs, Bernie Aronson, who worked diligently to help resolve conflicts in El Salvador and Nicaragua, was called out of government retirement February 2015 by Secretary of State John Kerry and President Barack Obama to oversee America’s role in the Colombian Peace Process, at the invitation of the Colombian government. As the Special Envoy with extensive experience in conflict resolution efforts, he has a unique insight into the challenging negotiations that have occurred since 2012 between the Colombian government and the FARC guerrillas.
