Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali becomes President of Guyana

Presidential candidate of the People's Progressive Party/Civic Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali was sworn in as the ninth President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on August 2, 2020. Dr. Ali brings to the job as chief executive of this country years of experience as a minister of government in the PPP/C administration. His signature achievements were realized when he headed the Ministry of Housing and Water, transforming communities and making land ownership affordable to all Guyanese.

Dr. Ali is a graduate of the WJPC Caribbean Defense and Security Course in 2008. He holds a doctorate in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of the West Indies. He has served as Project Manager of the Caribbean Development Bank’s Project Implementation Unit in the Ministry of Finance, and Senior Planner in the State Planning Secretariat. He became a member of the National Assembly of Guyana in 2006, and was subsequently appointed to the portfolios of Minister of Housing and Water and Minister of Tourism Industry and Commerce. The WJPC congratulates Dr. Ali and wishes him and his government a successful term in office.
