BG (ret.) Mark Anthony Phillips becomes Prime Minister of Guyana

Former Chief-of-Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, Brigadier General (ret.) Mark Anthony Phillips was sworn in as Prime Minister of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on August 2, 2020. He has had a distinguished career of almost four decades in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) culminating with his appointment as the Chief-of-Staff of the GDF and retiring in 2016. As a member of the Army, BG (ret.) Phillips held a number of crucial leadership positions at various levels and ranks. He received vast military training, certification, military decorations, medals, awards and honors both locally as well as in the Caribbean, South America, Central America, the United States of America, and Canada. BG (ret.) Phillips possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Management, a Master’s Degree in Public Management and several Post-Graduate Diplomas in Defence Planning and various areas of Management. He also graduated from the WJPC Defense Planning and Resource Management (DPRM) course in 2003, completed the Advanced Defense Policy (WJPC module) at the Inter American Defense College in 2011, and participated in the Regional Transnational Threats (RTNT) seminar in 2017, Barbados. The WJPC congratulates BG (ret.) Phillips and wishes him and his government a successful term in office.
