SEDENA Visits the Perry Center
June 11, 2017

On June 9th, a delegation from the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense’s (SEDENA) Superior War College (ESG) visited the Perry Center for briefings and a dialogue on the topic of emerging defense and security challenges in the Western Hemisphere. Led by Major General Francisco Aguilar Hernández, the group included over 100 Mexican Army officers, as well as Mexican Navy officers and international students from Brazil, Nicaragua, South Korea, and Egypt.

After Dr. Scott Tollefson welcomed the group to the Perry Center, GEN (ret.) Carlos Ospina-Ovalle, Distinguished Professor of Practice at National Defense University’s College of International Security Affairs, spoke on the "Evolution of the Concept of War." Later, the Perry Center's Dr. Boris Saavedra presented on the principles of cybersecurity. Throughout the day, the Perry Center hosted guest briefers from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, the Customs and Border Protection, and the National Guard Bureau.

After spending an additional day in Washington touring national landmarks, the delegation will travel to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to learn about the US system of professional military education at the US Army Command and General Staff College.  Subsequent engagements will include meetings at US Northern Command/North American Aerospace Defense Command and US Army North.
