The Perry Center Bids Farewell to Team Members

June 23, 2014

Acting Director Ken LaPlante hosted an internal ceremony and reception honoring the service of three departing members of the faculty and staff. COL Al Brooks, USA, military faculty member; Ms. Rosalind Green, resource manager; and Dr. Isidro Sepúlveda, associate professor, all complete their tenure at the Center this month.

COL Brooks, who will retire this month after nearly 30 years serving in the US Army, held the position of military faculty and senior military advisor at the Perry Center for one year. With his extensive regional experience, including serving as Military Group Commander in Ecuador, he brought expertise, professionalism, and a positive attitude to every aspect of his tenure at the Perry Center. COL Brooks participated as a facilitator in courses, academic exchanges, and roundtable discussions, and also served as intern coordinator for several cohorts at the Center. The US Department of Defense awarded COL Brooks the Legion of Merit for his exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements throughout his career. Mr. LaPlante, on behalf of the Perry Center, also awarded COL Brooks a certificate honoring him as Distinguished Member Emeritus for his hard work throughout his time at the Center.

Ms. Green, who has accepted a new position at the DSCA Directorate of Business Operations, leaves the Center after serving as resource manager for two years. During her time at the Center, she excelled in her position and was masterful in budget execution. Many alumni may remember her for her professional demeanor while serving as the paying agent for courses and events. For her service to the US government, she received the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Medal. In addition, Mr. LaPlante also granted her a certificate honoring her as Distinguished Member Emeritus of the Center.

Dr. Isidro Sepúlveda, who will return to his home country of Spain to join the department of contemporary history at UNED, served as a member of the Perry Center faculty for more than four years. While at the Center, he facilitated and directed many courses, participated in dialogues and roundtables, performed interviews for national and international media outlets, and published prolifically. (In fact, you can download the table of contents of his most recent book, Las claves del mundo actual: una historia global desde 1989 at http://www.sintesis.com/data/indices/9788499588421.pdf. Mr. LaPlante recognized Dr. Sepúlveda for his exemplary service with a certificate honoring him as Distinguished Member Emeritus of the Center.

Family and friends joined the Perry Center faculty and staff in honoring these three departing members of the Perry Center family. We are sad to see them leave, but look forward to their continued professional success!
